The Pug is a beautiful breed of dog and it got famous post Hutch made it its brand ambassador and featured it in its TV Commercials. We all just can't forget the Hutch ad "You and I, It's a beautiful world". It featured a cute little Pug dog emotionally knit with his cute little owner. Pug is a breed of dog with physically distinctive features of a wrinkly, short-muzzled face, and curled tail. A baby Pug is sold for Rs. 50,000 or more.
Pugs are high maintenance dogs. Pugs require a fair amount of grooming and general care. Pugs are prone to a myriad of genetic health issues, and require more veterinary care than the average breed of dog. Pugs shed a lot. If you get a Pug, you’ll have fur all over the place. On every piece of furniture, on all your clothes and in your car. Pugs are also difficult to toilet train or housetrain. The majority of Pug owners however, often find housetraining a task that takes a year or even longer. If the idea of a years worth of poops and pee on the carpet isn’t tolerable to you, don’t get a Pug.
Due to the above mentioned issues, many Delhi based middle-class dog owners have started abandoning their Pugs. The dogs costing Rs 30000 to Rs 40000 are being dumped by their owners, sometimes at doorsteps of animal shelters and a lot of times in streets or in cardboard boxes.
Accoridng to a Delhi based NGO called Fauna Police, they have found 4 Pugs in the last 10 days and one had open wounds and dust that made it look like a stone and others had ailments like bleeding eyes and maggot infection.
While Charities and animal welfare organizations along with Animal lovers are trying their best to rescue the abandoned pugs, pugs are less likely to survive in the streets for more than a week.
